People are always asking why the cost of professional photography is so high. Spend two hours at a photo session, snap a few pictures, and that's it, right?
Well, not exactly.
Generally a two-hour photo session requires another four hours (or more) of your photographer's time uploading the digital files to a computer and a backup system once back in the studio, editing and retouching, uploading the finished proofs to a website or spending time printing hard copies.
Unless you live out of town, you will meet with the photographer at least once prior to the shoot and spend time getting to know each other, discussing photo ideas and logistics.
Your photographer will usually arrive at least a half hour or more prior to the event or the shoot to set up her equipment. And she often is the last to leave.
If you are ordering prints or a DVD of digital files she must either print the final photos or spend time burning them to DVD as well as creating your own unique design for your personalized photo archive.
Then it's off to the post office to send your package on its way.
Your two-hour shoot actually takes about eight hours to complete.
And we haven't even discussed the cost of doing business. Or shooting weddings.
Some of us charge more or less than others. Experience and cost of equipment, advertising, and other overhead figure into that.
But we all love what we do! I know I enjoy meeting people from our community, Florida, the US and the world. People from everywhere seem to come to south west Florida for the major events in their lives.
I look forward to seeing you through my lens at my next shoot.
